8 July 2000

• Added new photos to VF-151/161 photo page and the Around and About the Midway page from Ike Newkerk.
• I'm close to being caught up with the new ship's company entries to the muster bar. In case anyone's curious, the process for updating the muster bars goes like this. I get way backed up and finally scared that I'll never get caught up, I spend a few nights here and there when I can copying data from the e-mail submissions I get into a data html document. After I get everyone entered I convert to the data file to a table, add a header and footer and I'm done. I've done a few things lately that helps speed the process up significantly but it still a laborious task.
• Not that I mind, I really do enjoy working on the page but with building the new additions to the house, training for my network certifications, getting my private pilot's certificate and now expecting a new daughter I just don't get the time I used to for working on the fun stuff. Hopefully that will change soon. I have my private pilot's certificate (YEA!!!!!!) and the house additions are almost done. I have a lot of work I want to do with my web pages. They are long over due for revamping. Some have gotten huge and need to be split off, others need to be created, and I'd like to experiment with some new things. I also need to optimize all of the photos. I've pretty much run out of disk space on the server and either have to optimize or start removing pics and I don't want to remove anything.

17 Jan 00 - While working on the update for the Muster Bars including new additions and changes to exsisting members the mail files became corrupt and unusable. This was one of those, "I think I'm going to be sick" moments. I apologize to everyone that has been waiting patiently these past few months to get in. The files on the server are fine so I didn't lose anything that was already online. I also have about 50 submissions from the last month still on the mail server, so I'm going to get started with these. What I ask of you is if you don't see your name on any of the Muster Bar lists please resubmit. I will make buckups this time so the same thing doesn't happen again. Again, my apologies to all. Buzz

15 October 1999

• I figured out a faster and easier way to update the Muster Bar. Because of this I did not need to create a new volume. So far just the Airwing has additions. The Ship's Co. list is not updated and none of the requests for e-mail or other changes are done yet. I'll work on Ship's Co. next and then get to all of the requests for changes. After the Muster Bar's are in good shape I'll start making changes to the other pages and adding more photos I've received. I have some great photos from Photographers Mate Bob Van Jones from the 1952-53 Med Cruise. Very cool stuff!
• My flight training progresses. I have only my night cross country to do tomorrow night and then comes practicing for my check ride. Hopefully, by the end of the month I'll be a certified pilot!

• I thought I had put out a general message since a few of you have asked when I will be updating the pages, in particular the Muster Bars. A lot has been going on this summer that has gotten in the way. I started working on getting my private pilot's certificate this past April. Anyone who knows me know how I go full blast on something when it's what I want to do. This was opportunity of a lifetime to finally fly and it has consumed nearly all of my time, free or not ;-)

  The other major thing that happened recently is Melanie and I got married on July 17th. We had been planning this as a surprise since last Christmas. We had a giant pig roast party, invited everyone, and popped off in the middle of the party that we were getting hitched. When someone finally asked when, we said, "right now!" and got the minister out of the crowd and started the ceremony right there in the driveway. It was a great surprise and we think everyone enjoyed it.

  Another item on my list is I started a new position here at Med Admin. I'm no longer going to be responsible for desktop support and concentrate my full effort on servers and services. It's a great new opportunity and I'm looking forward to really getting going on it. For now though I have to get our new desktop support person Chris up to speed and provide her with all the nesessary documentation that I should have written years ago.

  So, I'm sorry if sound like I'm just trying to come up with excuses for not updating my web page. I really want to get it re-vamped big time and I have been working on it. The good news is I should have my private pilot's certificate by the end of October if not sooner. I've done all of my requirements except the night flying and that's not much. When I get back from vacation next week I'll start on that and hopefully within a few weeks will be able to take my checkride.

  With that said I'm sure everybody's saying, "yea, uh huh.. that's great. So when are you going to get the pages updated?" :) Well, I work on them when I can and since I'm starting a volume 3 of the Ship's Co and AirWing it should be fairly quickly. If you've sent an application form for the Muster Bar please be patient and wait until the update comes to see if you made it or not before sending another form. It just adds more work for me sorting out all of the doubles and triples unless you have a good reason to send another like you changed your e-mail address or forgot to add your rating, etc.

  Thanks for everyone's patience and support for my web site. Your constant messages to me about how much you enjoy the site is the major reason I continue to run it.

• Finished with the changes and updates to entries in all the Muster Bar volumes. Looks like I'm going to have to create a volume three for Airwing and Ship's Company. Several members get dropped from the lists randomly when I try converting the volume two data files. I'll start wworking on the new volumes this weekend.
• Joe Toranto sent me a create idea. He suggested I put a last modified date on the Muster Bar page so you don't have to download the lists just to find out I've been out goofing off and not updating the lists :) I'll continue to use the what's new page and change the date on the main page whenever I make changes to any page.

8 June 1999

• I know I know.... It's been awhile but honest, I've been busy. In addition to remodelling the bathroom completely I've been taking flying lessons! I added a new page with some photos Melanie and I have taken since I started. I hope to ave a diary out there soon of all my flights in case anyone is interested. Hopefully it will give anyone wanting to start lessons a picture of what it's really like. It's been the time of my life though. This is what I've always dreamed of doing and sometimes I can't believe I'm really doing it especially since I've solo'd and can go up on my own now. What a rush!
• In addition to the flight lesson stuff I got through a lot of the e-mail address changes to the muster bar. Hopefully I can keep working on it a little every night and get caught back up.

• I'm sure no one, including myself ever thought I'd do it but the Muster Bars are as of this moment, completely caught up! Every new addition and change has been made that I have. I encourage everyone to check their own entry for correctness and completness. Forward me any changes and please use the Roll Call form to do so. Fill out your infor and in the comments make mention that you're sending a change or update and which volume you are in. *phew!*
• I'm hoping to go up for my first flight lesson this Saturday weather permitting. I'm really anxious to get started and plan on doing two hops a week.
• Though the Muster Bars are up to date there are still items left to be added and cleaned up. I have several photos from a few of you to put out and some typos and corrections a few of you have pointed out to me. I'll get to all of it as soon as I can.

28 February 1999

• Well, Since the last update I've gotten a ton of new entries for the Muster Bar. I worked on the Ship's Co. Vol 2 tonight and got about 60 done. The reason you don't see them is I haven't converted the data file yet. I'm going to wait until I have everyone in it and then convert. There is also about 30 waiting to go into the Airwing Vol 2 and about 30 or so address changes to make.
• I've finally taken the first steps towards something I've wanted since I can remember. I've started training for my Private Pilot's Certificate! I probably still wouldn't have started it if it weren't for the motivation and support I get from Melanie. Thanks Baby! Anyways, As I progress though my training I plan on putting together a log on my page somewhere with pics and training flight details. Stay tuned!

• As you may have noticed, I have finally started implementing some updates the past few days. Here is a run down of what I have changed/added so far;
• Added a Volume 2 for Air Wing and Ship's Company Muster Bar. These are not complete! I still have 280 Ship's Co., 112 Air Wing, and 25 address changes to add.
• Added a 1953-54 Med Cruise photo page.
• Changed my Bio page.
• Added the my page to the Carriers of the World and Intruder Web Rings.
• What's left? I still have more photos and the Snoopy Airplans to add.
• Model Rocket plans, photos, and articles.
• Redesign several of the pages.

23 July 1998

• Just an status report on the update to the pages. I haven't forgotten about everyone and all the stuff that's been sent my way. The Muster Bar is going to have to under go a change for the next round of additions. I'm going to have to go with a Volume I and II for both Ship's Company and the Airdales. Reason being is the data files for the existing tables are hosed beyong repair meaning I'd have to retype everything that's already there to keep it as it is. Sorry, but I don't have that kind of time. Putting all the new additions on new tables won't be that difficult just a little time consuming. Problem is I'm moving this weekend and won't have much PC time for awhile yet. I will get to it as soon as I can though. I have a lot of great new photos to add to so keep checking.
