USS BEALE (DDE-471) CIRCA 1957 MED CRUISE

USS BEALE (DDE-471) CIRCA 1957 MED CRUISE

DVD Content
This DVD is from the 8mm home movies that were filmed during a Med Cruise, circa 1957.
THIS DVD IS MY SALUTE TO THE BLACK SHOE TIN CAN NAVY!!! :)
Ships officers all formed on the bow in dress whites (photo, perhaps).
Scenes from around the deck, including weapons firing (such as firing torpedoes at rock formations. You can see them explode), and really showing how much she moved in high seas. I served on aircraft carriers, and I got sea sick just watching this part!!! You black shoes are nuts!
Shots of the bow plowing through the water
Mostly color footage. However, some was filmed with black and white film.
Battle group gunnery excercise (unknown carrier a few miles off the bow). All of the battle group guns create a giant 'T' off the port side. Pretty cool.
Scenes while pier side, including unloading a jeep.
UNREP scenes with the USS Entemedor (SS-340).
Lots of liberty scenes.
Great views of the ship from a liberty launch.
Running time over 55 minutes.

  • Produced by GRS Videos (TM). GRS Videos is dedicated to the preservation of Naval Aviation film footage. This passion began when the son of a recently deceased Korean War veteran told me how he had thrown away all of those "old 8mm films of planes flying off of a ship". Yes, I cried. Our heritage MUST be preserved. As a veteran of Naval Aviation, I have a strong interest in ensuring that our stories are not forgotten. If you have footage (16mm, 8mm, VHS, Super 8, Beta, or Digital) contact me at PLAT_Collector@verizon.net. I will also gladly trade any footage I have for new footage (any format). So, if I have Naval Aviation footage you want, and you have something I do not have, contact me and I am confident we can work something out. I am always looking for new PLAT mishaps and home movies/video of carrier operations and life on carriers. All proceeds go into obtaining and preserving more Naval Aviation footage. Gary R. Schreffler served on USS Midway (with HS-12) from 1984-1991.
