USS RANDOLPH (CVA-15) 1954 MED CRUISE "CRUISE OF THE RANDOLPH"

USS RANDOLPH (CVA-15) 1954 MED CRUISE "CRUISE OF THE RANDOLPH"

DVD Content
This DVD contains the actual, uncut footage that was filmed during the 1954 Med Cruise. The color in this vintage film is stunning.
Great scenes of the flight deck throughout.
This appears to have been made by the ship, and is narrated in its entirety. It is just a great film!
Footage of a minor mishap: A Panther lands and the starboard main mount collapses.
Excellent flight operations, with fantastic footage of FJ Fury's as well as Cougars, Panthers, AD Skyraiders, AJ Savages and the HUP helicopter. In fact, there is even footage of the helicopter making a real rescue. We do not see why the aviator is in the water, but we see him hoisted out of the ocean and returned to the ship.
Great UNREP footage.
Scenes of gunnery practice, crew inspections, you name it. This great film is probably one of the best films of a carrier during this era. It covers most of the ship, from the engine room to the bridge. We also see a medical casualty from another ship transferred via high-line to the Randolph, and then medical staff doing their thing.
Over 45 minutes running time.

  • Produced by GRS Videos (TM). GRS Videos is dedicated to the preservation of Naval Aviation film footage. This passion began when the son of a recently deceased Korean War veteran told me how he had thrown away all of those "old 8mm films of planes flying off of a ship". Yes, I cried. Our heritage MUST be preserved. As a veteran of Naval Aviation, I have a strong interest in ensuring that our stories are not forgotten. If you have footage (16mm, 8mm, VHS, Super 8, Beta, or Digital) contact me at PLAT_Collector@verizon.net. I will also gladly trade any footage I have for new footage (any format). So, if I have Naval Aviation footage you want, and you have something I do not have, contact me and I am confident we can work something out. I am always looking for new PLAT mishaps and home movies/video of carrier operations and life on carriers. All proceeds go into obtaining and preserving more Naval Aviation footage. Gary R. Schreffler served on USS Midway (with HS-12) from 1984-1991.
