USS ANTIETAM (CVS-36) CIRCA 1958

USS ANTIETAM (CVS-36) CIRCA 1958

DVD Content
This DVD contains the actual, uncut 16mm footage that was filmed aboard the Antietam during carrier qualifications (CQ's).
Great flight operations of the SNJ and T-28. If you love either or both of these aircraft, you will enjoy this DVD.
Flight operations were filmed from multiple vantage points, including the LSO platform. These vantage points also provide great views of the Antietam, and her highly unique features: The only angle deck Essex class to retain the guns fore and aft of the island, and the centerline elevator on the aft end of the flight deck. Also, and this looks so odd to anyone who ever served on a carrier, the person who filmed this footage also filmed bolters from way below and forward of the angle. At first this confused the heck out of me, as I could not figure out how he was filming flight ops from below the port catwalk. Then it hit me: the Antietam was the only angled-deck conversion to not include a hurricane bow. So the guy is filming form the open fo'c'sle. Part of the charm of this great footage is due to all the unique views and sights afforded only aboard the Antietam.
The real charm of this footage is for anyone who did their CQ's aboard Antietam. This will be a trip down memory lane and a chance to show your grandchildren what you did as a young man!!
About 22 minutes running time.

  • Produced by GRS Videos (TM). GRS Videos is dedicated to the preservation of Naval Aviation film footage. This passion began when the son of a recently deceased Korean War veteran told me how he had thrown away all of those "old 8mm films of planes flying off of a ship". Yes, I cried. Our heritage MUST be preserved. As a veteran of Naval Aviation, I have a strong interest in ensuring that our stories are not forgotten. If you have footage (16mm, 8mm, VHS, Super 8, Beta, or Digital) contact me at PLAT_Collector@verizon.net. I will also gladly trade any footage I have for new footage (any format). So, if I have Naval Aviation footage you want, and you have something I do not have, contact me and I am confident we can work something out. I am always looking for new PLAT mishaps and home movies/video of carrier operations and life on carriers. All proceeds go into obtaining and preserving more Naval Aviation footage. Gary R. Schreffler served on USS Midway (with HS-12) from 1984-1991.
