CVS-12 USS Hornet 1967 Tonkin Gulf Cruise

CVS-12 USS Hornet 1967 Tonkin Gulf Cruise

DVD Content
Original 8mm home movie footage from USS Hornet (CVS-12) filmed by a S-2F crewman during the 1967 WestPac/Tonkin Gulf Deployment
During this deployment, Hornet was an anit-submarine carrier (CVS). This is a great look into the world of a CVS on a combat cruise
Footage of the Hornet leaving San Diego, as well as footage of Pearl Harbor and Hawaii
Great footage of flight operations. Includes S-2F Trackers (aka Stoof), E-1 Tracers (aka Willy Fudds or Stoof With A Roof)and the SH-3 Sea King (aka The Greatest Flying Machine In History)
Footage of the S-2Fs attacking a target sled towed behind the ship
Great UNREP footage with Canadian destroyers. We even see a cut off valve fail during the break away, and lots of black oil spilling all over the clean, white Canadian destroyer hull!
Footage filmed while flying in the S-2F. Includes a scene of a battleship far below shelling a shoreline, perhaps San Clemente Island
This is color footage, run time approximately 50 minutes

  • Produced by GRS Videos (TM). GRS Videos is dedicated to the preservation of Naval Aviation film footage. This passion began when the son of a recently deceased Korean War veteran told me how he had thrown away all of those "old 8mm films of planes flying off of a ship". Yes, I cried. Our heritage MUST be preserved. As a veteran of Naval Aviation, I have a strong interest in ensuring that our stories are not forgotten. If you have footage (16mm, 8mm, VHS, Super 8, Beta, or Digital) contact me at PLAT_Collector@verizon.net. I will also gladly trade any footage I have for new footage (any format). So, if I have Naval Aviation footage you want, and you have something I do not have, contact me and I am confident we can work something out. I am always looking for new PLAT mishaps and home movies/video of carrier operations and life on carriers. All proceeds go into obtaining and preserving more Naval Aviation footage. Gary R. Schreffler served on USS Midway (with HS-12) from 1984-1991.
