General Notes and Corrections
  • USS Midway cruise books on CDROM are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. If you do not have the Acrobat Reader you can download it for free from Adobe's Acrobat Reader web site.
  • Due to their size, the cruise books are divided into parts. This is to allow a greater range of computers the ability to open the PDFs. To open a part for viewing click on the thumbnail graphic. If your web browser has the Adobe Acrobat plug-in installed then the PDF will open in your web browser. Note - this could take a minute or two depending on the speed of your CPU and amount of RAM available. If your browser does not have the Acrobat Reader plugin then you will be prompted to save the PDF to your hardrive. You can greatly decrease the load time by copying the CD to your hard drive if you have the available disk space.
  • You can navigate easily through the PDF by expanding the Bookmark tab on the left. The Page tab will display a list of page preview thumbnails.
  • Each CDROM also contains wallpaper pictures for your desktop. Click on the link to view a sample sheet.
  • There is also a PDF of double pages that have been "stitched" together. These are pages or photos that spread across two pages.
  • Some books have very tight bindings so it is impossible to get the entire page flat for scanning. Most of the time I am able to crop this effect out or fix it with Adobe Photoshop, but in some cases there is a dark band on the edge of the page effected.
  • When possible defects such as creases, markings, stains, poor photo quality are corrected. This is not a perfect process, but I have tried to preserve the cruise book as close to mint condition as possible.
  • If you wish to print a paper copy it is recommended you use a laser printer or printing shop.
